COLORED (TINTED) CONTACT LENSES: There are a number of different types available, with some being tinted lenses and others being painted lenses.  For the sake of avoiding duplication, the basics of contact lenses will not be discussed here.

Tinted contact lenses are simply lenses which are colored.  They can have your prescription built in or they can have no refractive powers, implying then that they are purely cosmetic.

The tinted lenses generally enhance the natural color of the iris or can slightly alter lightly colored irises.  The darker colored irises such as brown, need so-called iris painted lenses to make a noticeable difference.

These lenses cost more than conventional contact lenses, but many people feel that the greater price is justified because they are delighted with the cosmetic result they achieve with the lenses.  The same fitting requirements, side effects and complications arise as with conventional contact lenses.

The ideal person is somebody with lightly colored eyes, in which the color of the tinted contact-lenses can be manipulated to achieve the best results.

In people with refractive errors, these lenses are especially popular; they kill two birds with one stone, namely improving the vision and secondly, improving the person's appearance.
